HIV Fundamentals Concepts for the Professional Nurse

Despite ongoing advancements in HIV prevention and treatment, many nurses in Louisiana report limited knowledge in best practices to care for their patients as evidenced by conversations with Louisiana State Nurses Association (LSNA) executives, therefore providing this information can improve the quality of care these nurses provide.

2. Examine the incidence and prevalence of HIV locally and nationally

3. Discuss current HIV prevention and treatment modalities

4. Identify key nursing considerations for the care of people living with or vulnerable to HIV
